Enjoy The Four Seasons
Summer
Summer is definitely a time to be on or near the river. During June, July, and August, take a fun river float trip through spectacular river country and see the natural world from mid-stream. You can hire an outfitter and go with a guide or rent your own inflatable. The days are long and hot. Go for a hike. Have a picnic on the riverbank.
Fall
September through mid November is a peaceful time of year on the Rogue. The heat has gone and so have the crowds. River craft turn to drift boats. Everyone slows down a bit. In October, the autumn colors are spectacular in the river corridor. You can hike along the Rogue River Trail to Rainie Falls and watch salmon jump the falls or lazily float on the low waters of the river for a few afternoon hours.
Winter
Winter at the Rogue Forest B&B is a time for catching up with that long overdue nap. Play cards by the roaring fire. Read for hours. Take a stroll along the river and chances are you’ll be the only one there. When you return to the Rogue Forest B&B, take comfort in front of the fireplace as you unwind from the day.
Spring
Hike the Rogue River trail into the roadless area along the river and experience the green rebirth of the earth’s flora. Hunt for wild orchids, iris, lilies and ferns. Find native dogwood in bloom. Discover wild bleeding hearts hidden under lush old growth forest. |

For getting up and into the outdoors, there is much to do. Here are some possibilities:
- Take a full day or 1/2 day guided float trip and enjoy the view from midstream. Have fun through Class II rapids, watch osprey babies learn to fly, identify orchids and lilies and riverbank lupine.
- Hike The Rogue Canyon. Trails meander through forests, open meadows, and dramatic viewpoints rise from rocky crags along the Rogue River. A wonderful hike is the 4-mile round trip trail into the river's roadless area to Rainie Falls, where if the timing is right, you can watch salmon leap the falls. OR for those wanting to walk all day, the 6-mile round trip hike to Whiskey Creek Gold Miner’s Cabin is on the other side of the river.
- Explore the river down at the water's edge from numerous places along a 15-mile reach.
- Fish for steelhead or salmon: from the bank or via boat with a guide.
- Take a leisurely drive on the Rogue Scenic Byway and other nearby scenic roads through spectacular wild river canyons and old growth forest with beautiful views.
- Watch for bears, otter, beaver and turtles and if you're lucky maybe even a bobcat!
- Go birding and identify pileated woodpeckers, ouzels, hummingbirds, mergansers, bald eagles, great blue herons, and Osprey.
- On a clear night, gaze at the milkyway from the redwood decks.
- Read a book.
- Take a nap.
- Simply let the river go by!
What to Do Away from the River
- Southern Oregon has gained an international reputation for making great wine. There are a dozen wineries within an hour or two drive of the Rogue Forest B&B and chances are that the winery owners will be the ones pouring. Maps and info are at the B&B and we can arrange for a guided tour to pick you up and return you from a day of winetasting.
- About 1 3/4 hours’ drive away is the Oregon Caves National Monument. Above ground, the monument sits within a dense beautiful old growth forest. Below ground is an active marble cave created by natural forces over hundreds of thousands of years in one of the world's most diverse geologic realms. Plan to enjoy lunch in the spectacular Caves Chateau café built by the CCC in the 30’s. Great guided tours.
- A little over an hour away is the art and cultural heart of Southern Oregon— the town of Ashland. Ashland is a town full of Shakespeare (and other theater), culture, arts and fine crafts, great restaurants, and a great organic food coop. Ashland’s downtown has lovely shops, shops and more shops.
- Less than 30 minutes drive is Wildlife Images. Take a tour of their non-profit bird and wildlife rehabilitation and education center and see bear, cougar, fox, wolves, bobcats, eagles, hawks, vultures, and much more. This non-profit is one of Josephine County’s favorite!
We know the Rogue River and we know Southern Oregon.
